Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos-Dual SIM QWERTY Android Phone

Samsung unveiled a new Dual SIM version of its successful entry-level Android Smart Phone Samsung Galaxy Y, the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos.

The Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos is a QWERTY keypad style smart phone with a 2.6″ capacitive touch display. The Phone features GSM+GSM network support with dual standby.

Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has 3G and WiFi Connectivity Support.

Display:

Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos features a 2.6″ capacitive touch screen display with 256k colors support and 400 x 240 pixels resolution. Although the resolution is quite generous for the display size 256K colors support is quite disappointing as the colors look washed out on the display. A 16M color display would have been more appropriate.

Processor:

The processor is yet unknown, but we are expecting it to have the same processor that duties in the Samsung Galaxy Y, a 832 MHz one.

Memory:

384 MB of RAM and a 512 MB of ROM are given. The external memory is expandable up to 32 GB and you would get a 2 GB micro SD card out of the box.

The 384 MB of RAM is adequate and given with an 832 MHz processor the device should perform lag free while using phones inbuilt functionality and most of the apps, however for resource savvy apps and games would experience certain lag.

Form Factor:

The phone is a regular bar shaped one. The measurements read 110.8 x 63.5 x 11.9 mm and it weighs 112 grams. With those dimensions and weight the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos is a great device to hold on to ( weighs less and perfectly fits in your palm) .

Camera :

We have a 3.15 MP camera in the rear and a VGA camera in the front is given for your video calling needs. Like most of the cameras from Samsung, the 3.15 MP does a fine job on its level.

Video recording can be done only up to QVGA resolutions @24 FPS which is a letdown.

Connectivity:

The Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos has both WI-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and 3G HSDPA 7.2 MBPS support. The mobile has a USB 2.0 slot and supports Bluetooth v3.0 .

Sensors :

The Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos has an Accelerometer, a Proximity sensor and a Compass.

Battery :

A decent 1350 mAh battery is provided which is claimed to give upto 4.5 hrs (2G) and 3 hrs (3G) talk time and hasĀ  upto 3 days of standby.

Other Features:

The mobile supports A-GPS and WI-Fi hotspot.

Price :

The Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos is priced around 9000 INR.

Verdict :

The Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos is a decent Dual SIM Android Smart Phone with dual standby feature and a really nice QWERTY keypad with comfortable oval-shaped buttons. On the downside, the display is can only reproduce 256 K colors one and colors look pretty washed out, but when it comes to narrowing down to a good Android Smartphone with Dual SIM and QWERTY pad you cannot go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos.

  1. Thanks for the info. I was looking at the BB9220 as an alternative. This phone provides what I need up in the mountains of Palawan: 1) Decent battery life 2) strong reception 3) large memory to store text messages 4) Dual sim feature 5) android os.
Does Samsung provide a utility which will allow you to transfer your Phone book and messages from your old phone to the Galaxy Y ?
