Samsung Omnia M S7530-Should You Buy it ?

The successor to Samsung Omnia W,Omnia M S7530 has hit the shelves this month in Europe and India. The Phone priced at around 15,900 offers a brilliant 4″ capacitive Superamoled display and a 5 MP camera with a slimmer build compared to the previous generation W.

However the mobile still as restricted by Windows OS runs at a native resolution of 480*800 (which for the size is good enough) and duties a 1 GHz processor like all other Windows Mango devices. However point to be noted here is that the phone offers incredibly smooth and lag free experience and plays back 1080P videos without any sweat.

Samsung Omnia M S7530 Review

So people keen to buy a windows phone (knowing the fact that they wont be updated to windows 8) should consider Omnia M as it offers a bit more than Nokia’s 710 at the same price. Here is a brief overview of its specs and features and a mini Samsung Omnia M S7530 review.

Samsung Omnia M S7530 Specs :

Display : 4″ capacitive Superamoled Display with a native resolution of  480*800 (16 M Colors).

Build : Sleeker design compared to the Omnia W,64.1 x 121.7 x 10.5 mm and weighs only 119 gms which offers good grip and also looks much better.

Performance : 1 GHz Processor and 384 MB of RAM,though might not be much on the paper but being highly optimized Windows 7.5 Mango utilizes these resources to its best and gives a lag free “fall in love with” experience.

Memory : The Samsung Omnia M S7530 has been announced to be launched in two variants, 8 GB and 4 GB internal memory, but according to leading estore flipkart’s listing they have the 4 GB variant only in stock which indicates only 4GB variant launch in India. This is a serious let down,a mere 4 GB of internal memory is available and windows lack of Micros SD card compatibility kicks you hard here.No MicroSD card so no expandable memory, you have to live with that.

Connectivity : WiFi,3G (7.2 Mbps HSDPA),EDGE,GPRS,Bluetooth v2.1, A-GPS with Bing Maps.

Camera : An excellent 5 MP  rear camera with led flash that duties in the Samsung Focus is present.A front facing 0.3 MP camera for skype video calls is also another attraction in this mobile.

Battery : Li-Ion 1500 mAh of battery is provided, quite satisfactory as it looks to be good enough for 1 day of moderate usage considering the requirements of an average windows phone.

Last but not least the software,it runs windows 7.5 mango out of the box and would be upgraded to windows 7.8 tango-a minor update that gives you cosmetic feel of windows 8.

Verdict :

So finally what do i have to say about this device ? Well i like it,if i had to go for a windows phone right now i would probably give the Omnia M some serious thought especially the 4″ display and the new design ergonomics tempt me which on the other hand, with Nokia lumia are not so good. However you get the advantage of Nokia drive and maps with the Nokia and of course more memory (8 GB).But the deal breaker would be…well two things

1) The internal memory ,8 GB variant at this price would be perfect.

2) Its a windows Phone-ouch ! yeah now that we know for sure that windows phone 8 is not going to make to any of the current gen devices, and being aware of the feature limitations of the OS,i would rather consider an Android alternative.

A cross thought-Android Mobiles at this price segment SUCK-no surprises there. I use a Samsung Galaxy S3 and i have seen occasional lags (very few,i still love you SGS3,no hard feelings 😉 ) but my previous mobile Galaxy S i9003 made me cry, literally. So many lags, freezes and what not.So the point is though Jelly bean is here with much improved frame rates i do not think a mobile in the range of sub 15,000 INR would get it,we all know the bland truth of Android updates,so i will go back again and would consider going with a Windows Phone anyway-iff i need something at this budget.

So finally, after exploring my own endless rant and cross thoughts,i’d say at a budget of 15,000 INR one won’t be totally nuts to go with an Windows 7.5 device, especially when it has to offer a beautiful OS that responds to your every swipe, touch or kiss for say.

But if you can live with occasional lags (where occasional means a LOT) but want the openness and tons of apps and games (half of which wont run on a mobile at this price) or if you have small geek inside you that would root your  device and try out some custom roms you might be surprised by the improvement in the user experience. In either of the cases you should go for an Android device like  Galaxy Ace plus (probably i will too).

So do comment, what would you buy ? Samsung Omnia M or Nokia 710 or an Android alternative at this price or if you were sure until now and i messed it up for you.Do comment, criticize and swear in the section below.
